  5. Bacon has much to say of Solomon as the forerunner of 
  6. himself. In fact, he derives (pp. 39¬≠40) his pedagogical theory 
  7. of aphorism from Solomon:

  9.           So like wise in the person of Salomon the King, we 
  10.      see the gift or endowment of wisdom and learning, both 
  11.      in Salomon‚Äôs petition and in God‚Äôs assent thereunto, 
  12.      preferred before all other terrene and temporal felicity. By 
  13.      virtue of which grant or donative of God Salomon became 
  14.      enabled not only to write those excellent Parables or 
  15.      Aphorisms concerning divine and moral philosophy; but 
  16.      also to compile a Natural History of all verdure, from the
